MARS (a play about mining) is a project that has continued to flourish in a variety of ways. When I first came on board the project was unfolding as a collaborative dance-theatre piece. That iteration was workshopped at the Center for Performance Research in Brooklyn in early 2013, and I contributed and art-direct illustrations that were projected onto the walls of the “white box.” Those projections served as the set for the live show, which may be remounted in the near future.
In early 2014 I had the privilege of making cover art for the soundtrack, conceived and composed by Adam Miller and performed by Coal River Orchestra. Watch excerpts from the release party performance here.
Now, in Spring 2014, Ray Jones and I have contributed illustrations from the original dance-theatre performance to Volume One of Asteroid Belt Almanac, which can be pre-ordered from The Head & the Hand Press. The corresponding text is is a first look at the script for a graphic novel version of the story written by Tom Coiner.
